Open-source Migration

There are two main groups of reasons for open-source migration: lower costs and data persistence. Lower costs comes from the fact that most of the open-source software is free or very inexpensive (compared to similar commercial software). Data persistence comes from the fact that when working with open-source software one uses open standards that can be used even if the software that created the files is no longer developped. Open-source migration can be a tedious process if the organization is using dedicated software. Sometimes is possible to migrate averything and sometimes is not. Sometimes migration is easy (applications with identical or very similar features exists), sometimes is more difficult. There are also cases when open-source migration forces a better behaviour and the result is actually superior with minimal costs.
