Internet Collaboration
Internet Collaboration is a broad
term that defines any teamwork that is done with the help of the
Internet as a communication media. In order to be able to collaborate
via the Internet one needs (and can use) a variety of tools ranging
from simple e-mail manipulation systems such as mailing lists to full
groupware suites that allows advanced information sharing - common
scheduling systems, common resource booking systems, project management
tools and much more.
An Internet Colaboration system differs from a Content Management
System in its scope. A CMS focuses on information display whereas ICS
focuses on information sharing.
Internet Collaboration tools are typically used when team members are
distributed over a large area and traditional communication and
information sharing means (memos, face-to-face meetings, etc.) are not
an option. However, in many cases some collaboration tools can be used
even if team members are close to eachother. Web Calendars are an
example.
